A Bossou chimpanzee pulls out a young shoot from the crown of an oil-palm tree. Using the hard stem of the young shoot as a pestle, it pounds the hole left by the removed shoot. As the palm heart at the bottom of the hole breaks apart, the chimpanzee scoops it by hand and eats it. This behavior has been reported only for the Bossou chimpanzee.
