This pair was found on an artificial bamboo reef beside the Artificial Reef 1 in the Hayakawa Beach Point. The site was about 11 m deep and there were some surges. The water temperature was 24¡î and visibility was about 8 m vertically and 4-5 m horizontally. Wrasses (Halichoeres spp.) and goatfishes were present. About ten male Apogon niger were also present but the pair was a little distance away from these males. Although not included in the picture, the paired male A. niger was observed to chase away an approaching goatfish. ¡Êtranslated by Asoh¡Ë
