Balanoglossus carnosus is a marine organism belonging to the phylum Hemichordata. It is distributed in intertidal to shallow waters of west Atlantic to Indian Oceans. Individuals of this species live in tubes in the sandy bottom and feed on organic materials in the sand. The video shows an individual about 2-cm long collected at Hatajima, Tanabe Bay, in Wakayama prefecture. As the posterior half of the body was lost during collection, only the head is shown. You can observe how the mouth part at the right of the frame is moving peristaltically.
