The larvae of Osmylus hyalinatus are semiaquatic insects inhabiting the water's edge of small streams and ponds. This larva sprays a hyaline liquid from an anal opening if disturbed. The larva sprayed liquids to the coming forager of the ant Formica japonica, by which the ant seemed not to work normally.
