Second calendar-year female Crested Honey Buzzard in Morioka Zoological Park ZOOMO.
Response to playback of rattling call of Crested Honey Buzzard in Russia.
Movie (downsized) obtained near the cage.
In response to a rattling call of a juvenile bird
in Shushensky, Russia (momo211209ch01b),
the bird suddenly looked up as
the playback started and looked around more often
than before, and sometimes looked down.
It shook the head quite often. During the initial half
of the experiment, eye blinks apparently decreased.
During the later half, eye blinks or movements of
the nictitating membrane apparently returned to
the bird's usual state.
The Laughing Kookaburra sometimes responded with voice,
but did not appear to disturb the experiment.
See momo211209pp01b for information of this individual.
