During gametogenetic behaviour, male Hierodula patellifera body trembles greatly when it detects female sex pheromones.Using this as an example, a female undergoing calling (releasing sex pheromones) was placed in a desiccator and a pump was used to create a flow of gas.Males were placed at the gas outlet of the desiccator and responses were observed for 5 min.As shown in the video, when the female is reliably colling, the male immediately shakes his body when he senses the gas at the desiccator outlet.
