This video was created by combining 736 consecutive photographs taken automatically at one-minute intervals by a digital trail camera installed in a catch basin in Nanjo City, Okinawa, Japan, between 22:08 on April 28 and 10:26 on April 29, 2025.
The footage records larvae of the Anderson’s crocodile newt (Echinotriton andersoni) being stranded on land as the water level receded after rainfall, and subsequently carried away by yellow crazy ants (Anoplolepis gracilipes).
