As for the experimental conditions, male and female pairs of black rockfish were kept in an aquarium during the breeding season, and the male's courtship behaviour was observed after approximately two weeks. Afterwards, the male was removed from the aquarium, and the urine in his urine bladder was dyed using a cannula, before being returned to the tank.
As for the behaviours in the video, the male approaches the female from behind and
overtakes her, then circles around to face her and, displays his body, immediately releasing the coloured urine.
